About us

We are Tempesta

Behind Tempesta is a simple question: why not build a camper like a surfboard?

How it all began

A camper that fits in the garage

Three years ago I was looking for a small camper. It had to fit in the garage, be light, and be aerodynamic enough to tow with an electric car. I never found it. So I started developing it myself.

I am an engineer and worked in the bicycle industry for a long time, where every gram and every detail counts. I brought that mindset with me: the first prototypes were classic timber constructions, followed by GRP bodies. Good, but not what I had in mind.

Why not build a camper like a surfboard? Glass fibre outside, glass fibre inside, a foam core in between.

That idea had me completely hooked. CNC milling, 3D printers, hundreds of trials and experiments, and many a sleepless night followed. The result was our own 3D sandwich process and, in the end, the Glide: a self-supporting monocoque made of a flax-fibre/GRP composite. Ultra-light, highly aerodynamic and exceptionally durable.

A classic timber construction absorbs moisture, moves, and over the years can give way or even rot. The Glide, by contrast, is built like a surfboard that spends years in salty sea water: tough, light and weatherproof.

Turning this vision into reality and making it available to others is my dream. With Tempesta I am fulfilling it: started as a side project, built with a lot of passion in Anzing near Munich.

The name

Tempesta is on Lake Garda

I found the name, quite romantically, on a trip to Lake Garda: Tempesta is a small village right on the shore. It stood for exactly the feeling I associate with the camper: setting off, arriving, being outdoors. The brand is named after it.

Behind the scenes

Built with family and friends

A camper is not made in the workshop alone. Many test drives, evenings at the campsite and honest feedback have made the Glide what it is today.
